Hello, my name is Matt and I have a mild learning disability and long-term health condition which restricts me from getting a normal job.  I have volunteered for various organisations such as British Heart Foundation, as a warehouse assistant and with Storeroom and Age UK as a van driver’s assistant.  I did have one paid job working for the Ryde Cooperative food company but that was as a shelf stacker.

I approached Citizens Advice in April 2022 because I wanted to do something more challenging and meaningful.  Having completed online and face to face training, I am now acting as a Telephone Assessor and have also qualified as an Advice First Aider – a signposting role in the community.

This is a very different job for me compared to the roles I have had before, and my training is ongoing. My work colleagues and Supervisors in the office are friendly and helpful and always there whenever I need help or any further information whilst I am on the phone.

The skills I have learnt throughout this process have helped me to talk to friends and family about the range of issues that Citizens Advice can help with and how to access this.

So, if you do have any questions then the number to remember is 0800 144 8848 where either myself or one of my fellow Telephone Assessors will be there to take your call and help you to get the advice you need from one of our trained Advisers.
