Citizens Advice Isle of Wight is a founding member of IWASP (Isle of Wight Against Scams Partnership) and works together with leading organisations such as IW Trading Standards, IW Council, AgeUKthe Police, Fire and Rescue services, to promote the reporting of Scams and to help the victims.

6 in 10 people in the South East region have been approached by a scammer in the last two years. Worryingly, of those targeted, only 30% of people spoke to anyone about it. Fraudsters target not only the elderly and more vulnerable in the community, but increasingly the ‘life-established’ generation (people aged in their 40s-60s) are being scammed.

During 2019 CAIW promoted the national Scam Awareness campaign with the ‘Stop, Talk, Report: Be #scamaware’ slogan, creating three Scams Champions – specialist Advisers who have been trained by IW Trading Standards to support victims of scams. For a list of currently known scams targeting the Isle of Wight, visit this Facebook page set up and maintained by one of our Scams Champions.
