Housing - Legal advice Service Update as of Wednesday 5th July 2023: Due to cuts in funding, the Housing Team at Citizens Advice IW will be working part time hours until it closes on 31st August 2023. The Team is therefore unable to take any more referrals / assist any new clients. Have you been issued with a notice by your landlord? Got court papers for a possession or eviction hearing? We can give you free impartial, independent and confidential advice and help you access free legal representation. We can help you with housing issues, refer you to our specialist money advice team and give support with a range of other matters to help you get back on track. We have 2 services available: Housing Court Desk We’ll be in court for every possession hearing at Newport on the Isle of Wight, including being available to assist on Telephone Hearings. Our Duty Possession Adviser / Solicitor will be able to represent you in court if you'd like us to. It is advisable to come to court at least 30 minutes before the hearing. Legal Aid If you qualify for legal aid and your problem is covered by it, you could get: advice on your rights and options help with negotiations and paperwork a solicitor or barrister to get your case ready and speak on your behalf in court and some tribunals What you can get legal aid for: The Legal Aid Agency has granted us a Housing Civil Legal Aid contract, so you might be able to get legal aid for problems like: homelessness or losing your home, or if it’s in serious disrepair anti-social behaviour injunctions Appealing Homelessness decisions made by the Local Council More information on our Legal Aid service is available here You may be able to find the answer to your queries on our self help website IsleFindIt.
