Role Description

People have to complete forms every day, but for many this is daunting, whether they are online forms or handwritten. Your role will be as scribe for people who cannot complete the forms without some help. This may be Blue Badge applications, car parking applications, travel document forms, benefit forms which can be either in paper format or require someone to make an online application. Having to complete forms causes many people a lot of anxiety, so you will be providing an invaluable service for our clients.

What do you need to have? 

You don’t need specific qualifications or skills but you’ll need to: 

- be friendly and approachable 

- be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own 

- have good IT skills 

- have clear handwriting 

- be calm under pressure 

- be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality and data protection 

- be willing to undertake training in your role 

- Knowledge of benefit forms or experience of benefit applications would be an advantage but training will be given 

 

How much time do you need to give? 

We can be flexible about the time spent and how often you volunteer so come and talk to us. 

 

Valuing inclusion 

Our volunteers come from a range of backgrounds and we particularly welcome applications from disabled people, people with physical or mental health conditions, LGBT+ and non-binary people, and people from Black Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities. 

This role could be undertaken at one of our Outreach Community Sessions in Ryde, BinsteadBrading, Sandown, Shanklin, Ventnor, Freshwater, or East CowesA laptop will be supplied.
